Final prep underway for biggest idol-immersion ceremony in Cox’s Bazar

Durga Puja, biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, has begun across the country. Amid the festival final preparations are underway for the biggest idol-immersion ceremony in Cox’s Bazar. The preparations are going on in full swing at Cox’s Bazar beach.

It is learned that hundreds of idols from various mandaps of the district will be brought to Laboni Point on Cox’s Bazar beach on October 13 for immersion after Vijayadashami. At the same time, millions of people will gather at Cox’s Bazar beach to see the immersion of the idols.

On the other hand, like the rest of the country, Cox’s Bazar also has a festive atmosphere. Durga Puja is going to be organized in 321 puja mandaps in the district this year. Out of this, 151 idol pujas and 170 ghot pujas are being held.

Meanwhile, the acting president of District Puja Udjapan Parishad, Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, urged the people of the Hindu community not to be afraid or alarmed with the way the administration has strengthened security during this year’s Durga Puja.

In this regard, captain of RAB-15 Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain said that perfect security measures have been taken to ensure smooth celebration of the festival.

He added that there is no risky puja mandap’s in Cox’s Bazar. Still, the patrols of army, police and RAB have been increased surrounding the festival. Intelligence teams are working and control rooms have have been set up to avoid any untoward incident during the puja.

He also said that the district administration has taken overall security measures so that the country’s largest idol burial ceremony can be held peacefully and smoothly at Cox’s Bazar beach.
