Final voter list published: 127.7 lakh eligible to vote in upcoming polls, referendum
The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday (January 22) published the final, constituency-wise voter list for Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election and the concurrent referendum on state reforms, confirming that 127,711,795 citizens are eligible to vote.
According to EC Public Relations Director Md. Ruhul Amin Mallik, the electorate includes 64,825,151 male voters, 62,885,524 female voters, and 1,120 hijra voters.
With both the parliamentary election and the referendum scheduled for 12 February, the commission is placing special emphasis on ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Constituency-wise data shows that Gazipur-2 has the largest voter base, with 804,333 registered voters, while Jhalokathi-1 has the fewest, totaling 228,431 voters.
The EC Secretariat stated that preparations—including ballot printing and polling station setup—are progressing rapidly. Since voters will cast ballots on two separate issues, the commission has warned that polling and counting may require extra time and additional precautions.
To ensure strict compliance with electoral laws, the EC reiterated that collecting NIDs or offering gifts in exchange for votes is a punishable offense. Mechanisms are also in place to address any disputes regarding candidate eligibility or court directives immediately.
Officials noted that the participation of new voters and overseas Bangladeshis could add a new dimension to the political landscape this election. The commission is coordinating with law enforcement agencies to ensure voter safety and transparent balloting.
