Fine for chemical flavor in bakery products in Bogura

Mobile court has fined an establishment named Noor Bakery in Bogura for preparing food in an unhygienic environment and using chemical flavor. The drive was conducted around noon on Sunday (September 20) at Thanthania Shahpara area of Bogura city.

The joint drive was carried out by Bogura district administration, Safe Food Authority and National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate. The mobile court was conducted by executive magistrate and assistant commissioner of the district administration Md. Shahjalal.

According to mobile court sources, food was found being prepared in an unhygienic environment at the bakery, chemical flavor without quality verification certificate was being used, and flour dough was being prepared and stored beside the bathroom door. Besides, food workers were not following proper health rules, unclean wooden tables were being used and prepared bread was seen kept on the floor.

On the basis of confession of guilt in these incidents, the establishment was fined Tk 60,000 under section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009. The fine money was realized immediately afterwards.

Safe food officer of Bogura Md. Rasel, assistant director of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate in Bogura Md. Mehedi Hasan and members of law enforcement agencies were present during the drive.

Safe food officer of Bogura Md. Rasel said an explanation has been sought from the owner of the establishment regarding preparation of food in unhygienic environment and various irregularities.
