Fire at airport causes Tk 12,000 crore loss: EAB

The Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB) has estimated losses of around USD 1 billion, equivalent to Tk 12,000 crore, following the devastating fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

In a briefing on Monday, October 20, the EAB said preliminary assessments suggest total losses amounting to nearly 1 billion dollars.

The association also noted that beyond financial damages, the fire has severely harmed the country’s international image, terming the incident a matter of grave concern.

The blaze broke out on Saturday at the airport’s cargo village and took around 27 hours to be fully extinguished. The government has since formed a committee to investigate the incident.
