Fire at Brahmanbaria power substation disrupts electricity supply in several areas
A fire broke out at an old power substation in Brahmanbaria’s Datiara area early Saturday (August 29), damaging an auxiliary transformer and disrupting electricity supply to several parts of the city.
The fire started around 5:30am. A team from the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within about 15 minutes.
Md Nasir Uddin, an assistant engineer at the Brahmanbaria Electricity Distribution Division, said the auxiliary transformer was badly damaged in the fire, forcing authorities to suspend power supply to several areas.
Repair work on the damaged transformer is underway, and efforts are being made to restore electricity as soon as possible, he said.
Senior Station Officer of Brahmanbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence Md Nazmul Alam said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
No casualties were reported in the incident, although the temporary power outage has caused inconvenience to residents in several parts of the city.
