Fire at Chattogram Port auction shed brought under control

A fire that broke out at an auction shed inside Chattogram Port on Thursday morning was brought under control within an hour after an intensive firefighting operation.

The blaze erupted around 8:30am at the port’s auction facility near the stadium area, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Three units from the Fire Service rushed to the scene and launched efforts to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures and stored goods.

According to Fire Service officials, the incident was reported to the control room at 8:50am. After nearly an hour of coordinated firefighting efforts, the fire was fully contained at 9:49am.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Following the containment of the blaze, firefighters carried out cooling operations to eliminate any remaining hotspots and reduce the risk of reignition.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire or assess the extent of the damage. An investigation has been launched to identify the source of the blaze and evaluate any losses incurred.

As the country’s principal maritime gateway, the incident drew immediate attention from port authorities, who are also assessing whether the fire had any impact on cargo handling activities or overall port operations.

Officials said further details would be released once the investigation and damage assessment are completed.
