Fire breaks out at Dhamsona Union Parishad building in Ashulia
A fire broke out at the Dhamsona Union Parishad building in Ashulia, Savar, early Sunday (August 16), burning equipment and documents stored beneath a staircase.
The fire started at around 4:30am in materials kept on the staircase of the building near the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ), according to the fire service.
Two units from DEPZ Fire Service rushed to the scene after receiving the report at around 4:45am and brought the blaze under control after nearly 30 minutes of efforts.
A generator, wheelchair, mosquito-control chemicals, a fogging machine, documents and other materials stored beneath the staircase were damaged in the fire. However, the other rooms of the building remained unaffected.
Pranab Chowdhury, senior station officer of DEPZ Fire Service, said the fire was initially suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
The fire caused damage worth several lakh taka, he said, adding that the exact extent of the loss would be determined after further assessment.
