Fire breaks out at factory in Chattogram EPZ

A fire has broken out at a factory in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone.

The blaze started around 2pm on Thursday, October 16 on two floors of Adams Cap and Textile Ltd, a medical equipment manufacturing company located on Road 5 of Sector 1 in the zone.

Mohammad Jamir Hossain Zia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the EPZ Police Station, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The fire originated on the seventh floor of the eight-storey medical equipment factory building and later spread to the sixth floor.”

According to the Agrabad control room of the Fire Service, 15 units are currently working to bring the fire under control.

Abdul Mannan, Deputy Assistant Director of the Fire Service’s Chattogram region, said, “We cannot yet confirm whether any workers or employees are trapped inside. Our efforts to douse the fire are ongoing.”

Abdus Sobhan, Executive Director of the Chattogram EPZ, said the Fire Service is actively working to control the blaze. “So far, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries,” he added.
