Fire breaks out at Mymensingh Medical, brought under control within 30 mins

A fire broke out at the new building of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but was brought under control within about half an hour by the Fire Service. No casualties were reported.

According to Mymensingh Fire Service Senior Station Officer Sanwar Hossain, the fire broke out around 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 17, on the sixth floor of the hospital’s new building, where the children’s ward is located.

Deputy Director of the hospital, Dr Jakirul Islam, said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. However, timely action helped prevent major damage. Patients admitted to the children’s ward and their attendants were safely evacuated through the area in front of the emergency room.

The Fire Service said nine of its units rushed to the scene after receiving the information and worked to control the blaze. The fire was fully brought under control after about half an hour.

Fire Service authorities said an investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire.
