Fire brought under control at Chattogram Shopping Complex

A fire that broke out at Chattogram Shopping Complex near the city’s 2 No. Gate area has been brought under control after about one and a half hours of firefighting efforts.

According to sources, the fire started around 9:30am on Saturday (April 11). Upon receiving the alert at around 9:40am, the Fire Service deployed five units from two stations to the scene.

Officials said the teams worked quickly to contain the blaze, bringing it fully under control after prolonged efforts.

However, Fire Service officials said thick smoke still remains inside the building, preventing full normalisation of the situation. Rescue operations are ongoing to determine whether anyone is trapped inside.

Chattogram Fire Service Assistant Director Anwar Hossain said that although the fire is under control, the situation inside the building has not yet stabilised due to heavy smoke.

He added that the cause of the fire will be determined after an investigation.
