Twelve shops were damaged in a fire at Rajshahi New Market early Sunday (March 16). According to Md Didarul Alam, assistant director of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze that started around 12:30am might have originated from an electric short circuit. On information, seven firefighting units responded to the incident and brought the situation under control within 1:50am. Meanwhile, a firefighter fell ill while battling the fire. He is currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the fire service official said.

রাজশাহীর নিউমার্কেটে অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ঘটনায় ১২টি দোকান ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। শনিবার (১৫ মার্চ) দিবাগত রাত ১২টা ৩০ মিনিটের দিকে নগরীর ষষ্ঠীতলা এলাকার এই মার্কেটের পেছনের অংশে আগুন লাগে। রাজশাহী ফায়ার সার্ভিস ও সিভিল ডিফেন্সের সহকারী পরিচালক মো. দিদারুল আলম জানান, সম্ভবত বৈদ্যুতিক শর্ট সার্কিট থেকে আগুনের সূত্রপাত হয়েছে। খবর পেয়ে সাতটি ফায়ার ইউনিট ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে রাত ১টা ৫০ মিনিটের মধ্যে আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনে। এদিকে আগুন নেভাতে গিয়ে অতিরিক্ত ধোঁয়ায় একজন ফায়ার ফাইটার অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন। বর্তমানে তিনি রাজশাহী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন বলে জানান ফায়ার সার্ভিসের ওই কর্মকর্তা।
