A fire tore through four jute warehouses and three e-bike garages in Fatullah of Narayanganj early Friday (August 21), causing extensive damage.

The fire broke out around 6am in the Masdair area, beside the old Dhaka-Narayanganj road.

On information, four units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour of efforts.

The affected structures were tin-shed warehouses and garages built on district council land opposite Amana Garments. Several of the structures had reportedly been rented to jute traders, while others were used to store and repair e-bikes.

The fire quickly spread through the adjoining structures, destroying four jute warehouses belonging to Aslam Member, Ahidul Islam, Raja and Maura, as well as three e-bike garages owned by Ali, Shahid and Anwar.

Thick black smoke and flames spread across the area, triggering panic among local residents and workers at nearby factories. Locals also joined firefighters in efforts to contain the blaze.

Aslam Member, one of the affected jute traders, said the exact cause of the fire could not immediately be determined. Jute and other materials stored inside his warehouse were destroyed in the blaze.

Abdullah Al Arifin, deputy assistant director of the Narayanganj Fire Service, said an electrical short circuit at one of the e-bike garages was suspected to have started the fire.

The authorities are assessing the extent of the financial losses.
