Fire erupts at Center Point Mall near Dhaka Airport, 6 fire units respond

A fire broke out at a restaurant on the fifth floor of Center Point Shopping Mall in the capitals'Uttara on Wednesday (September 9), prompting a 55-minute firefighting operation involving six units.

The fire started around 12:45pm at the six-storey shopping complex near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to the Fire Service.

Six units from the Uttara and Airport fire stations rushed to the scene and began firefighting operations. The blaze was brought under control at around 1:40pm.

No casualties were immediately reported.

The fire triggered heavy traffic congestion on roads around the airport as people gathered near the area. Smoke from the blaze and the firefighting operation also caused brief panic among nearby residents and pedestrians.

Anwarul Islam, an officer at the Fire Service control room, said firefighters were alerted to the blaze at a restaurant on the fifth floor shortly before 1pm.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately known. Fire Service officials said the details would be confirmed after an investigation.
