Fire guts 16 shops in Gazipur Market
At least 16 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a kitchen market in the Konabari area of Gazipur early Monday.
According to Saiful Islam, Station Officer at Konabari Fire Station, the blaze started around 5:30 am at the Konabari kitchen market and quickly spread, engulfing nearby shops.
“We suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. The exact extent of the damage will be determined after a thorough investigation,” he said.
Upon receiving the alert, four fire service units from Konabari and nearby stations rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control after two and a half hours of joint efforts.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the fire caused losses worth around Tk 25 lakh, while firefighters managed to save goods valued at approximately Tk 5 crore, the official added.
