Fire in 2 buses in Mirpur, cocktail explosions in Jatrabari
Fire incidents have occurred in two buses in the capital’s Mirpur. Among them, the incident took place in a Shikhor Paribahan bus in Mirpur-11 area and another Abhijat Paribahan bus in Mirpur-1 area. Besides, four to five cocktail explosions occurred one after another in Jatrabari. A rickshaw-puller was injured in this.
These incidents took place around 7pm on Saturday evening.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station Hasan Bashir said that a fire incident occurred in a running Shikhor Paribahan bus in the capital’s Mirpur-11 area. Later two units of Fire Service went to the spot and extinguished the fire.
He further said no casualty occurred in this incident.
Fire Service said the fire that broke out in a Shikhor Paribahan bus in Mirpur-11 area has come under control. The fire broke out in the bus due to mechanical fault.
On the other hand, the fire incident in the ‘Abhijat Paribahan’ bus occurred at Mirpur-1 number intersection around 7:15pm in the evening.
OC of Mirpur Police Station Hafizur Rahman said there was an ‘attempt to set fire’ to the bus.
He further said, “Someone or some people had attempted to set fire to the bus, but the fire was extinguished before the bus could burn. We are working on this matter.”
In a video of this incident, fire was seen burning at the rear side of the bus. And several people from outside were trying to extinguish the fire by sprinkling water.
Cocktail explosions in Jatrabari, rickshaw-puller injured. Four to five cocktail explosions occurred one after another in front of a market at the capital’s Jatrabari Chowrasta area. Rickshaw-puller Md Billal, 32, was injured in this.
This explosion incident took place in front of Samad Super Market at Jatrabari Chowrasta around 7:30pm on Saturday evening.
OC of Jatrabari Police Station Mohammad Raju confirmed the matter and said four to five cocktail explosions occurred in front of Samad Super Market at Jatrabari Chowrasta. A rickshaw-puller was injured in this. Police are present at the spot. Who are involved in this incident is being examined.
The injured rickshaw-puller Billal is a resident of Osmanpur area under Charfashion Police Station of Bhola. After the incident he was staying at Jatrabari Police Station. Later Jatrabari Police Station police sent him to hospital for treatment.
Police have strengthened security in that area after the incident. Subsequent legal proceedings in the explosion incident are under process.
Earlier, a Mirpur Super Link Paribahan bus was set on fire in front of Kafrul Police Station on Friday night. Cocktail explosion incidents occurred in Malibagh, Agargaon, Mohakhali, Jatrabari, Babubazar, Bangabazar, Gulistan, Moghbazar, Mouchak and Rampura areas from noon to night that day. A rickshaw-puller was injured in Jatrabari in these incidents.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has strengthened security over the incidents of cocktail explosions and setting fire to buses in various places of the capital. It was informed from DMP on Saturday morning that 200 checkpoints have been set up across the capital. Members of the law enforcement agencies are seen deployed in front of the checkpoints while touring the Shantinagar-Kakrail and Rajarbagh areas of Dhaka. They have been conducting searches in various vehicles including motorcycles, private cars and CNGs since morning.
