Fire in Old Dhaka brought under control
A fire that erupted in a plastic warehouse in the Chairman Ghat area in Islamabagh of Old Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon (December 17) was brought under control after about two and a half hours of firefighting efforts, authorities said.
The blaze started around 1:30pm and quickly drew a large response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence. Initially, six units from the Lalbagh, Hazaribagh and Palashi stations were dispatched, and due to the intensity of the fire, additional units from Siddique Bazar were also sent to the scene.
According to FSCD Media Cell officials, a total of 11 firefighting units worked to contain the fire, which spread within the densely packed warehouse environment. Firefighters faced challenges navigating narrow lanes, prompting crews to draw water via long hoses from nearby points to reach the flames.
Officials said the operation successfully brought the fire under control by around 4:00pm, with no immediate report on casualties or the total extent of property damage.
Further details would be released once assessments are complete, they added.
