Fire on Upaban Express disrupts rail links with Sylhet
Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of Bangladesh was temporarily suspended after a fire broke out on the Dhaka-bound Upaban Express on Tuesday morning (March 31).
The fire erupted around 6:00am in the train’s engine while it was passing through Purbakalipur area between Bhanugach and Shamshernagar stations in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar.
Railway sources said the blaze was likely caused by oil leakage from the engine, which quickly ignited.
The train was halted immediately and passengers were safely evacuated. No casualties were reported, though panic spread among passengers.
Railway officials said a replacement engine was dispatched from Sylhet to recover the train and restore normal operations.
