Fire under control at Katabon residential building; 2 succumb to burn injuries

A fire that broke out in two flats on the 12th floor of a 14-story residential building in the capital’s Katabon area has been brought under control. Six units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the blaze under control around 3:08am, following a nearly two-hour effort on Saturday.


Two people, who were rescued with severe burns and rushed to hospitals, have succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Md. Jony, 25, and Md. Abdus Salam, 19.

Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room, stated that the two individuals were rescued from the building immediately after the fire broke out and were sent to hospitals. Jony was taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while Abdus Salam was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors later declared them dead.


According to the fire service, no one else remains trapped inside the building, and no further casualties have been reported. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
