A ban on all forms of firecrackers during Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations has been announced by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd).

He informed journalists of the decision on Monday, November 22, following a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.

The adviser stated, "No firecrackers of any kind will be allowed on Christmas or New Year's Eve. Roads cannot be blocked or barricaded for any event. Security measures have been arranged for each church."

Outlining several directives given to law enforcement agencies during the meeting, the adviser said, "These include intensifying the arrest of terrorists and miscreants through Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, increasing intelligence surveillance, keeping specialised forces on standby to secure nationally important key point installations, enhancing search operations by setting up checkpoints in the Dhaka metropolitan area and other key locations across the country, regular monitoring through the control room of police headquarters, and observing the overall law and order situation via CCTV cameras installed at various points in the city."
