Firefighter Shamim Ahmed succumbs to burn injuries
Firefighter Shamim Ahmed, who was injured in a devastating explosion and fire at a chemical warehouse in Tongi, Gazipur, has died while undergoing treatment. He had been serving at Tongi Fire Station.
He breathed his last at 3pm on Tuesday, September 23, at the ICU of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed resident surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman.
He said four burn victims from Monday’s incident had been admitted to the hospital. Among them, Shamim Ahmed suffered burns across his entire body. He died around 3pm. Three others remain under treatment, two of whom are in critical condition.
Talha Bin Zasim, an officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Wing, said firefighter Shamim Ahmed, injured in the Tongi chemical warehouse blast, passed away at 3pm on Tuesday. His funeral prayer will be held at the Fire Service Headquarters after Maghrib prayers.
Shamim Ahmed joined the Fire Service in 2004. His home district is Netrokona. He is survived by his wife and three children.
