Fish trader slashed, robbed of Tk 62,000 in Jatrabari
A fish trader was injured after being attacked by four muggers who intercepted his rickshaw and robbed him of Tk 62,000 and a mobile phone near Jatrabari wholesale market in Dhaka early Monday (August 17).
The victim, Emed Ali, 50, was on his way to the market to buy fish when the incident occurred at around 5:30am near Jatrabari intersection, according to his relatives.
His cousin Hiron Mia said four men stopped Emed’s rickshaw and demanded money while brandishing sharp weapons. When he refused to hand over the cash, the attackers allegedly engaged him in a struggle before slashing him repeatedly on different parts of his body.
The attackers then fled with Tk 62,000 in cash and his mobile phone, Hiron said.
Local people later rescued Emed and took him to Mugda Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Emed, a resident of North Badda, is the son of Mohor Ali.
Inspector Md Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, confirmed the incident and said Emed received treatment at the hospital’s emergency department before returning home.
Police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the robbery.
