Fisherman killed in crocodile attack, body recovered after 7hrs
A fisherman has been killed in crocodile attack in the Sundarbans while he alongwith some other fishermen were returning from the forest.
The 32-year-old victim Subrata Mandal's body was recovered at about 10:30pm on Tuesday after seven hours.
The accident occurred at 3:30 pm on Tuesday in the Karamjal canal of Chandpai range of the East Forest Division of Sundarbans.
The deceased Subrata is the son of Kumud Mondal of Dhangmari area of Dakop upazila of Khulna district.
According to local and forest department sources, Subrata entered the Sundarbans on Tuesday morning with the purpose of fishing after depositing revenue from Dhangmari station. On his way back at around 3:30 pm, he was crossing the Karamjal canal. At that time, a crocodile grabbed him and dragged him away. The other fishermen who were with him could not save him despite their efforts.
After receiving news of the incident, more than a hundred villagers rushed to search for him in boats and trawlers. After a long search, the body was recovered from underwater in the Gajalmari area of the Karamjal canal in the Sundarbans, said Israfil Boyati of Dhangmari village.
Howlader Azad Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Karamjal Tourism and Wildlife Breeding Center in the Sundarbans, confirmed this information to the media.
