Fishing banned in Kaptai Lake from April 24
Rangamati district administration has imposed a ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake. All forms of fish harvesting, transport and marketing will remain suspended from midnight on April 24 until further notice. The administration has warned of strict legal action for violating the ban.
The decision was made at a meeting held on Monday afternoon, April 20, at the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner's conference room to ensure safe breeding, reproduction and normal growth of fish in Kaptai Lake.
The meeting informed that announcements will be made via waterways and roads to publicise the ban, ensuring everyone is aware. Additionally, mobile court operations will continue in Kaptai Lake to prevent illegal fishing.
Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi said the ban has been imposed in the interest of proper breeding, reproduction and development of fish in Kaptai Lake during the current season. During the ban, cardholder fishermen dependent on Kaptai Lake will be provided with rice through VGF cards.
Senior Scientific Officer of the Fisheries Research Institute Ishtiaq Haider, BFDC Commander Md Foyez Al Karim, Assistant Naval Police Superintendent of Chattogram Region Abu Md Dilwar Hasan Inam, Rangamati Additional Police Superintendent Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, District Fisheries Officer Mizanur Rahman, along with fishermen and fisherfolk representatives, were present at the meeting.
