Five arrested in Nural Pagal’s body burning incident in Rajbari

Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the attack, vandalism of Darbar Sharif of Nurul Haque, also known as Nural Pagla, and burning of his body in Rajbari's Goalanda.

The arrests were made following a raid on Saturday night (September 6), Md. Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Goalanda Ghat Police Station, confirmed.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Shafin Sardar, 19, and Enamul Haque Jony, 32, of Dewanpara village, Hiru Mridha, 40, of Baliadangi village, Masud Mridha of Dakshin Ujanchar, and Apu Kazi (25) of Kazipara.

The incident took place after the a group of Towhidi Janata staged a protest procession after jumma prayers on Friday (September 5).

During the protest, the Darbar Sharif of Nural Pagla was attacked, triggering a violent clash between the protesters and the devotees.

One person was killed and over 50 people were injured in the conflict.

The attackers set the Darbar Sharif on fire and exhumed Nural Pagal’s body, which was later burned.

When police arrived to control the situation, they were attacked, and their vehicles were vandalised.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Selim filed a case against 300 to 3,500 unidentified people following the attack on the police after midnight on Friday (September 5).
