Five BGB platoons deployed in Gopalganj for Aug 15 security

Security has been tightened across Gopalganj ahead of the 51st death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) deployed at sensitive points across the district.

Police said additional security measures have been put in place in Gopalganj town, Tungipara, Kotalipara and other sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Police, BGB and other law enforcement agencies have stepped up patrols and intelligence surveillance, while joint forces have been kept on standby to respond to any untoward incident.

Traffic has been temporarily restricted on a road near the district and sessions judge's residence, with additional police deployed there. Security has also been reinforced around major roads, busy intersections, government facilities and gathering points.

In Tungipara, security has been particularly tightened around the Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex and surrounding areas. Public movement has been restricted and vehicle access has been tightened as part of the enhanced security arrangements. Additional forces have also been deployed in vulnerable areas of the upazila.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman said the BGB deployment was part of a routine law-and-order arrangement approved by the district's law-and-order and monitoring committee, rather than a measure specifically linked to August 15.
