Five kidnapped in Teknaf rescued with hands and feet tied

Police have rescued five kidnapped people with their hands and feet tied and faces covered in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar.

They were rescued in a drive in the hilly area adjacent to Baradail in Baharchhara Union of the upazila on Tuesday (September 9) morning.

Teknaf Model Police Station OC Abu Zayed Md. Nazmun Noor said that two accused in the case have been arrested.

Among the rescued people are - Md. Adnan,21, son of Shafiul Alam of Uttar Sonarpara in Jaliapalong Union of Ukhia, Md. Hashem, 22, son of Md. Shafiq of the same area, Rafia Begum, 30, wife of Abu Taher, a Malaysian expatriate from Shamlapur area of ​​Teknaf, his daughter Azma Akhter, 14, and son Saiful Islam, 10.

The arrested are Abdul Haque's son Md. Faisal, 30, of Shamlapur area of ​​Baharchhara union and Mohammad Kamrul of Jahazpura area of ​​the same union.

Police said that Rafia Begum used to live in Adnan's uncle's house with her family. On September 2, Rafia went to visit her in-laws' house in Shamlapur area of ​​Teknaf with Adnan and Hashem. The family stopped communicating with them from the evening of the next day. On the night of September 4, an unknown person demanded a ransom of Tk4 lakh on his mobile phone. Adnan's cousin Saiful Islam Belal filed a complaint with Teknaf police station naming three people and some unknown people.

OC Abu Zayed Md. Nazmun Noor said: "A drive was conducted in various areas prone to kidnapping in Teknaf from Sunday midnight to Monday morning. Md. Faisal was arrested from Shamlapur area and Mohammad Kamrul from Baradail area. However, Rafia Begum and her two children were missing since the incident."

He further said that in the face of a police operation in the Baradail hilly area, the miscreants left Adnan, Hashem, Rafia and her two children tied with their hands, feet and faces and fled. Later, police rescued them. The two arrested accused have been sent to the Cox's Bazar court, which ordered them to be sent to jail.

According to the information of the district police and the victims, 268 people have been kidnapped from different areas of Teknaf in the last 18 and a half months, most of whom were released by paying ransom.
