Five more children die due to Measles, symptoms
At least five more children have died in the past 24 hours due to measles and related symptoms, highlighting the worsening outbreak across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In its latest update released Thursday (April 23), the health authority said one child died from confirmed measles, while four others died with measles-like symptoms. Of the latest fatalities, three were reported in Dhaka division and the remaining two in Khulna and Chattogram divisions.
Since March 15, the outbreak has claimed 39 lives from confirmed measles and 194 more from associated symptoms, reflecting a growing public health concern.
The report shows that a total of 28,334 children nationwide have developed measles symptoms during this period. Among them, 18,845 required hospitalisation, with 4,059 cases later confirmed as measles. A total of 15,728 children have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far.
In the last 24 hours alone, 1,170 children exhibited measles symptoms, of whom 847 were admitted to hospitals—including 355 in Dhaka division. During the same period, 836 children were released after recovery, with 420 of them from Dhaka.
Health officials continue to urge vigilance as the surge in infections puts increasing pressure on the healthcare system.
