Five more children die from measles, death toll reaches 648
Five more children have died from measles and suspected measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from measles and suspected measles since March 15 to 648, according to the latest report published by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday afternoon, June 13.
The report stated that while no deaths from confirmed measles were recorded in the last 24 hours, five children died from suspected measles symptoms. During the same period, 63 new confirmed measles cases were detected, and 763 patients were identified with suspected symptoms.
According to the health directorate's data, 92 deaths have been recorded from confirmed measles since March 15. Meanwhile, the number of deaths from suspected measles symptoms during the same period stands at 556. Combined, total deaths from measles and measles-related diseases have reached 648.
The number of infections has also increased. A total of 10,248 confirmed measles patients and 84,899 suspected cases have been identified so far.
The report further stated that 69,606 patients have been hospitalised during this period, of whom 65,852 have recovered and been discharged.
The health directorate said the situation is being monitored and necessary medical and preventive measures have been strengthened.
