Five of same family burnt in gas leak explosion in Narayanganj
Five members of a family were severely burned in a gas explosion caused by a suspected leak in Fatullah of Narayanganj .
The explosion took place around 7:00am in a ground-floor apartment of an eight-storey building on Road No. 6 in the Bhuighar Giridhara area on Sunday (May 10).
The victims were identified as vegetable seller Md. Kalam, 45, his wife Saima, 40, and their three children — Munna, 12, Muni, 10, and Kotha, 7.
All five injured were rushed in critical condition by locals to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion was heard in the morning, followed by fire breaking out inside the apartment. Neighbours quickly rescued the injured and transported them to hospital.
Abdullah Al Arifin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said, "The explosion likely occurred when a flame source, such as a lighter, was ignited. Initial findings suggest a gas leak in the kitchen line led to gas accumulation inside the closed room."
Fire Service and local authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident.
