Five-year-old girl allegedly raped in Tangail, case filed

A five-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Delduar upazila, Tangail. An alleged perpetrator, Mintu Mia, has been accused in the case.

The victim's father filed a case at the local police station on Friday night, following the incident that took place on Tuesday afternoon.

Mintu Mia is the son of Abdur Rahim of the bus stand area in Dubail union.

The victim's father works as a truck driver for an industry, and the family lives in a rented house in the bus stand area. Mintu runs a shop next to their house.

On Tuesday afternoon, when the child went to the shop to buy chocolate, Mintu took her inside. He allegedly sexually assaulted her after luring her with chocolate and biscuits. When the child did not return home for a long time, her mother went looking for her and found the child undressed and crying inside the shop. When questioned, the accused fled after shutting down the shop. Locals gathered and demanded justice.

The child's mother said her husband was in Khulna with his truck at the time of the incident. Upon hearing the news, he returned home quickly, admitted the girl to hospital and filed the case on Friday. She also alleged that a local named Jobayer has been threatening them not to file the case.

The director of Tangail General Hospital said the victim was admitted to hospital on Friday noon. Medical examination did not find any physical evidence, but swab samples have been sent to Dhaka for testing.

Delduar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sakhawat Hossain said a case has been filed and the victim's statement has been recorded. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
