Flood situation in Chattogram alarmingly bad: Relief Minister

The flood situation in Chattogram caused by several days of heavy rainfall is alarmingly bad, Disaster Management and Relief Minister M Iqbal Hossain has said. He said the government has adequate relief stocks, which will be supplied according to the local administration's needs.

He was speaking to journalists during an exchange at the Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday, July 11.

The minister said the government has been closely monitoring the disaster situation for the past four to five days. He will visit five flood-affected districts over the next two days to assess the extent of damage and needs of affected people on the ground.

He said necessary assistance is being provided according to the local administration's requirements and the government is ready to provide any support needed. He added that he was visiting Chattogram to observe the real picture of the flood situation and monitor relief distribution activities.

M Iqbal Hossain said the process of preparing lists of flood-affected people is underway. A rehabilitation plan is also being formulated by assessing the damage. The government has sufficient relief materials, which will be supplied quickly as per the local administration's requirements.
