Flood situation worsens in 10 districts, rivers flowing above danger level
The flood situation has deteriorated in more than 10 districts across the country, with four rivers still flowing above danger level at several points in six districts, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre's regular bulletin on Saturday, July 11.
Water levels in the Teesta, Dharla and Dhudhkumar rivers in Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha may rise further over the next 24 to 48 hours, potentially exceeding danger levels and causing short-term floods in low-lying areas near the rivers.
Water levels in the Muhuri, Feni, Selonia and Halda rivers in Feni, Chattogram and Khagrachhari may also increase, posing a risk of temporary flooding in low-lying areas of these districts. Low-lying areas of Lakshmipur and Noakhali may also be inundated.
Of the 127 monitoring stations, water levels are rising in 57 rivers, falling in 64 and remaining steady in six. The centre said there is no risk of prolonged flooding.
Water levels in the Teesta, Kushiyara, Surma, Someshwari, Muhuri and Matamuhuri rivers are currently near or at warning levels.
