Flood victims to be rehabilitated in phases: State Minister

Flood-affected families in Bandarban will be listed and rehabilitated in phases through government initiatives, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Helal has said.

He also said instalments of microcredit loans taken from various banks and NGOs in flood-hit areas have been suspended for one month. Additionally, livestock in affected areas will receive free vaccination and treatment under government initiatives.

The state minister made these remarks as chief guest at a relief distribution programme at the Bandarban District Council rest house on Friday morning, July 17.

Mir Helal said the government's goal is not just relief distribution but restoring the normal lives of affected people. Necessary measures will be taken to build houses, reconstruct damaged infrastructure and recover agricultural losses.

He said relevant departments have been given necessary instructions to ensure assistance for flood victims. The government will continue full cooperation in rehabilitating and alleviating the suffering of affected people.

After the programme, the state minister visited various flood-affected areas in Bandarban town and remote areas of Rowangchhari upazila, speaking with affected people and distributing relief.
