Flooded family uses banana raft to carry body 2km for burial
Amidst floodwaters submerging homes and roads, a family in Chattogram's Satkania was forced to carry the body of a deceased relative on a banana raft to a burial ground about two kilometres away.
Mohammad Forqan, 60, an auto-rickshaw driver, died due to illness on Friday evening. His family said his home, the family graveyard and the surrounding area were all flooded, making burial at the family cemetery impossible.
The body was bathed and prepared for burial at Dastidarhat, about two kilometres from their home. Later, he was buried at the Fakir Mura Eidgah area around 10:00 pm on Friday.
The eldest son, Hafez Rashedul Islam, led the funeral prayers. A photo of the raft carrying the body has gone viral on social media.
