Floods force suspension of HSC exams across Chattogram Board
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled for Wednesday (July 8) under the Chattogram Education Board have been postponed due to worsening flood conditions and adverse weather across the region.
The decision was announced in a late-night notice issued on Tuesday (July 7) by the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
According to the notification, the examinations were suspended following reports submitted by deputy commissioners from all districts under the Chattogram Education Board, citing deteriorating flood conditions and weather-related risks.
The suspension applies to all educational institutions under the board's jurisdiction, including Chattogram city and district, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
The postponed examinations include HSC, Alim, HSC (BMT), HSC (Vocational) and Diploma in Commerce. Revised examination dates will be announced later.
The notice, signed by Prof Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and the Dhaka Education Board, said examinations under all other education boards, including the Madrasa and Technical Education Boards, will be held as scheduled.
Earlier on Tuesday night, authorities had initially postponed examinations only in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Rangamati. However, with the flood situation worsening, the decision was expanded to cover all districts under the Chattogram Education Board.
This year's HSC and equivalent examinations began on July 2, with nearly 1.27 million candidates participating under 11 education boards across the country.
