The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has reversed its decision to reduce the monthly allocation for food aid to the Rohingya to $6 per person.

In a recent letter, the organisation said that the allocation will be $12 per person per month, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman told the media on Thursday (March 27).

He said up until now, the allocation was $12.5. As a result, the allocation is now decreasing by 50 cents.

The relief commissioner said that this ‘50 cents’ was used to fortify food (adding nutrients), which may not be possible from now on.

Mizanur Rahman said, “I think that the diplomatic efforts of the Bangladesh government and the visit of the UN Secretary-General have influenced the reconsideration of the decision.”

A few days ago, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Bangladesh.

During this visit, he broke his fast with about 100,000 Rohingya in Cox's Bazar. He said that the only solution to the Rohingya crisis is the repatriation of the displaced Rohingyas to their own country.
