Food inflation lowest in 11 months

Inflation has been rampant for the past two years. Food inflation is even more unbearable. Despite the rice season and the abundance of winter vegetables in the market, food inflation has not fallen below double digits.

Despite the three consecutive months of falling inflation from November to January, food inflation was above 10 percent. Finally, in February, this rate came down to single digits. Food inflation fell to 9.24 percent in the month of February. After 11 months, this rate is now below double digits.

In March last year, food inflation was 9.87 percent. It increased to 10.22 percent in April. That trend has continued for so long.

The latest report by the government statistics agency, the Bureau of Statistics (BBS), says that overall inflation stood at 9.32 percent in the month of February, which is the lowest in the last 23 months. The last time headline inflation was lower in February 2023. The inflation rate for that month was 8.78 percent. Inflation has been declining for the last three consecutive months, including February.
