Football match clash leaves 20 injured, Including OC, in Kishoreganj
At least 20 people, including an officer-in-charge (OC) and four police personnel, were injured in clashes between residents of two villages in Kishoreganj’s Pakundia upazila over a football match.
The violence broke out between residents of Tan Lakkhia and Hapania villages on Saturday (April 18), a day after tensions first escalated during a local match. What began as a verbal altercation between players and supporters on Friday turned into overnight violence involving crude weapons.
Clashes resumed on Saturday morning, with both sides attacking each other and vandalising several houses, witnesses said. Police intervened to bring the situation under control but were met with resistance.
Officer-in-Charge SM Arifur Rahman and three other police personnel were injured during the operation. At least 16 villagers from both sides also sustained injuries and were treated at local health facilities.
Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed to maintain order in the area.
Police said no formal complaints have been filed and no arrests have been made so far, but the situation remains under control.
