State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak directed all concerned to take initiatives to increase export income and investment in the telecommunication and information technology sector, create employment and increase revenue in the next five years to lay the foundation of Smart Bangladesh.

He came up with these remarks in a meeting with the officials of the commission at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) office at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday.

Stating that BTRC has a database and automatic registration of mobile handsets manufactured, assembled and imported into the country, he instructed to take steps to stop all unregistered mobile phones.

Palak said, “During the current global economic crisis, a simple technology-based solution to increase exports, investment and employment and maintain law and order can benefit the country in many ways. There has been a revolutionary change in service delivery through 'Identity' verification authentication services. Each database needs to be interoperable with each other to make the service more accessible.”

BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed said, "BTRC is playing a role in improving the quality of telecommunication services, increasing revenue, and advancing the telecommunication sector through legislation."

"BTRC will undertake activities to provide affordable and quality telecommunication services by introducing modern technology," he added.
