Foreign airline flight lands at Osmani again after eight long years

SalamAir of Oman has landed a flight at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport after a long eight years. The SalamAir flight carrying 133 passengers and seven crew members landed at Osmani Airport at 7:55am on Tuesday (September 1). The Civil Aviation Authority welcomed it with a water cannon salute at that time.

After the formalities, the return flight of SalamAir left Sylhet for Muscat at 9:23am carrying 224 passengers, said Osmani Airport Manager Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

Earlier, Dubai-based Flydubai launched international flights at Osmani as the first foreign airline on April 1, 2015. However, the airline stopped its flights in September 2018.

SalamAir’s Sylhet Area Manager Selim Al Razi said direct flights will initially be operated three days a week on the Muscat-Sylhet route. There is a plan to increase the number of flights to five days a week from next month.

On the occasion of launching flights from Osmani International Airport, SalamAir arranged a cake-cutting ceremony and a discussion meeting at the airport’s VIP lounge.

Oman’s Deputy Ambassador to Dhaka Fateha Ahmed Al Balushi, SalamAir’s Chief Commercial Officer Steven Allen, Bangladesh Managing Director M A Latif Shahriar Zahidi and Osmani International Airport Manager Hafiz Uddin Ahmed were present at the event.
