Foreign exchange reserve stands at $36.46 billion
The country's gross foreign exchange reserve stood at $36.457 billion on Tuesday (July 28), according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bank's Foreign Exchange Reserve and Treasury Management Department.
Meanwhile, the net usable foreign exchange reserve, calculated under the IMF's BPM-6 methodology, stood at $31.749 billion. According to the Bangladesh Bank, the BPM-6 method deducts short-term foreign liabilities and other designated obligations from the total reserve to determine the actual usable reserve, which is why this figure is lower than the gross reserve.
Central bank data shows that the gross reserve had risen to $36.66 billion in the middle of this month, slightly declining in the latest count. On June 30, the gross reserve was $37.56 billion, while the BPM-6 reserve stood at $32.90 billion. The reserve declined after payments for Asian Clearing Union (ACU) import bills were made at the beginning of July.
