Foreign firearms recovered from Rajshahi border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized two foreign pistols, four magazines, and eight rounds of ammunition during an operation near the Rajshahi border. The recovery took place at Raotha border area under Bagha police station at around 5:30am on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Riaz Shahriar, commander of Rajshahi Battalion-1, stated that smugglers fled the scene on a motorcycle after noticing the BGB presence, leaving the weapons behind.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team had been stationed along the Raotha–Pirojpur river route to intercept a suspected shipment. When a suspect approached on a motorcycle, attempts were made to stop him, but he abandoned the bike and fled. A search of the motorcycle uncovered the firearms hidden under the seat cover.
He also stated that earlier, on January 17, a similar cache of two foreign pistols, four magazines, and eight rounds of ammunition was recovered buried in the ground in the Katakhali municipality border area.
Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, Rajshahi Battalion-1 BGB has strengthened security in its responsible areas. The measures include 10 base camps, 28 platoons of mobile striking force, a K-9 unit, seven speedboats and fast patrol crafts on the Padma River, deploying a total of 700 personnel. There are 64 polling centers across the three border-adjacent upazilas under their jurisdiction.
