Foreign pistol recovered from passenger bus in Cumilla

Highway police in Cumilla have arrested two young men after recovering a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, and one round of ammunition during a bus search.

The operation took place on Monday, January 19, at Madhaiya Bus Station in Chandina upazila along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The search was conducted on the passenger bus named ‘Asia Aircon’ travelling from Cumilla to Dhaka, where the firearm and ammunition were seized.

The arrested individuals are Habibur Rahman Shakil, 33, son of Babul Mia from Monairkandi village in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, and Mohammad Chishti, 42, son of Golzar Hossain from Laxmankhola, Bandar, Narayanganj.

Elliotganj Highway police officer-in-charge Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter. He said the bus was searched following secret information. The two passengers were found in possession of a foreign pistol, two magazines, and one round of ammunition.

The OC added that preliminary investigations suggest they were transporting the weapons to Dhaka from a border area. Authorities are investigating the source of the arms and their intended destination.
