Forest department official dies while inspecting hilly forest area

A Forest Department official, identified as Lutfor Rahman, 57, died after falling ill while inspecting a hilly forest area in Hathazari, Chattogram.

Hathazari Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Zahidur Rahman confirmed the matter at around 11:30pm on Monday (31 August).

Earlier, at around 2:30pm, the forest official was rescued in an ill condition from a remote, elevated hilly area west of Hathazari municipality.

According to local residents and the Fire Service, Lutfor Rahman, deputy range officer of the Hathazari Forest Department, went to an area called Shilchhari near a landfill adjacent to the Field Fire Range in the western hills of the municipality on Monday morning. He suddenly fell ill and became unconscious while visiting the remote hilltop.

Upon receiving the news, a team led by Hathazari Fire Service Senior Station Officer Mohammad Abdul Mannan went to the scene, rescued him and took him to the emergency department of the upazila health complex.

After conducting examinations, the attending physician declared him dead, saying he had died before being brought to the hospital.

Asked about the incident, OC Md Zahidur Rahman said the forest official died after suffering a stroke.
