Former Addl IGP Shamsuddoha arrested in cheque fraud case
Former Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) M Shamsuddoha Khandaker was arrested early Sunday from the Nawabganj area of the capital in connection with a cheque fraud case.
Confirming the arrest, Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mominul Islam said the former top police official was held based on an arrest warrant issued in a case involving a dishonoured cheque worth Tk 5 crore.
According to police sources, Shamsuddoha is accused in multiple cases, including at least seven related to bounced cheques. He also faces several corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The arrested former police officer is scheduled to be produced before a Dhaka court today.
Earlier, an ACC investigation revealed that Shamsuddoha and his wife, Ferdowsi Sultana Khandaker, had allegedly amassed illegal wealth amounting to Tk 30.35 crore.
