Former Army Chief Harun-ur-Rashid found dead in Chattogram

The body of former Chief of Army Staff and Destiny Group President Lieutenant General (Retd.) M. Harun-ur-Rashid was recovered from the guest house of the Chattogram Club on Monday morning.

According to police, the body was discovered around 11:30 AM in room 308 of the club, where the retired general had spent the night after attending a wedding reception on Sunday evening.

Md. Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) South Zone, told informed that the former army chief had a scheduled meeting in the morning. When he failed to respond to multiple phone calls and did not answer the door, staff members became concerned. Eventually, authorities broke a glass door leading to the balcony and found him unresponsive on the bed.

“There were no visible signs of injury on the body,” said DC Alamgir. “A preliminary report is being prepared. Personnel from the army, the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Crime Scene Unit, and other agencies are currently at the location.”

An autopsy will be conducted pending approval from the family to determine the exact cause of death, he added.
