Former BNP MP Akhtaruzzaman joins Jamaat

Former MP and expelled BNP leader Major, retd, Akhtaruzzaman met Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman and formally joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami by filling out the primary associate membership form.

The courtesy meeting took place at 9am on Saturday, December 13, at the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

During the meeting, in the presence of the Jamaat ameer, Major, retd, Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep confidence and satisfaction in Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s principles and ideology, patriotism and its unwavering stance on protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.

He then formally joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami by completing the primary associate membership form.

He expressed a firm commitment to devote the rest of his life to Islam and Islamic values, national interests and safeguarding independence and sovereignty. He also pledged to remain loyal to the party’s rules, ideology, discipline and allegiance at all times.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman warmly embraced him and wished him a long and virtuous life.

Earlier, Akhtaruzzaman was expelled from the BNP on charges of involvement in activities contrary to party discipline. The former Kishoreganj district BNP president contested the 2018 election as the BNP candidate for the Kishoreganj-2, Katiadi–Pakundia constituency, where he lost to Awami League candidate and former IGP Nur Mohammad. Previously, he was elected to parliament from the same constituency in 1991 and 1996 on BNP tickets, when the seat comprised only Katiadi upazila.
