Former Chhatra Dal leader shot dead in Khulna

Rashikul Anam Rashu, 36, a former Chhatra Dal leader, has been shot dead by miscreants in Khulna metropolis. The incident occurred around 11:30 am on Monday, March 16, in front of KDA Kolpotaru Market in the Daulatpur thana area of the city.

The deceased, Rashu, was a former organisational secretary of Daulatpur Thana branch of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Later, he contested for the post of general secretary of Daulatpur Thana Jubo Dal. His father, Shariful Anam, is a local BNP leader. Their home is in the Deyana area of Daulatpur thana.

According to witnesses and family members, besides politics, Rashu ran a brick and sand business beside KDA Kolpotaru Market. On Monday morning, he was at his business establishment when several miscreants arrived and opened fire targeting him.

Daulatpur Thana Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam said miscreants fired several rounds while he was inside his shop. One bullet hit Rashu in the head and another struck his body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but died on the way.

Police have recovered various evidence including bullet casings from the scene and have launched operations to arrest those involved.

According to police sources, eight murders have occurred in Khulna metropolis in the last two and a half months. Among them, five people have been killed in shootings by criminals.
