Former Dhaka CMM Rezaul Karim suspended

Former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, has been temporarily suspended over allegations of corruption and abuse of power, confirmed by the Ministry of Law.

Senior Public Relations Officer Dr Rezaul Karim confirmed the decision.

By order of the President, the suspension was declared on September 29 and made public on Monday after being issued by the Ministry of Law.

The order states that Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, formerly attached to the Ministry of Law, has been accused under the Supreme Judicial Service disciplinary regulations of misconduct. Given the gravity of the allegations, authorities deemed his temporary suspension justified.

In consultation with the Supreme Court and under Rule 11 of the Supreme Judicial Service Discipline Rules-2017, Rezaul Karim has been suspended with immediate effect.

During his tenure as Dhaka’s CMM, a report by private television channel 24 (Twenty Four) alleged corruption and abuse of power by Rezaul Karim.
