A court has granted a four-day remand to former Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam in the Badda Police Station Sumon Sikder murder case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order after a hearing on Wednesday (January 29).

DB Police Inspector Nurul Islam Khan presented him in court on Wednesday and applied for a 10-day remand. State Prosecutor (PP) Omar Faruk Farooqui conducted the hearing.

On the other hand, the defendant's lawyer applied for his remand to be canceled and granted bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail and ordered a remand.

According to case sources, Sumon Sikder was killed in random shootings on Pragati Sarani, north of Badda Fuji Tower, during an anti-discrimination student movement on July 19.

His mother Masuma filed a murder case in the incident. 179 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were named as accused in the case.
